Still on our drawing board, this program was designed by Edie Elkan for the exceptional 15 to 17 year old harpist who feels the calling to play for patients in healthcare. We anticipate its being launched the Summer of 2008.
Internships shall be worked at selected Bedside Harp host hospitals.
At this program's end, students should:
This rigorous and intensive summer program consists of a total of five modules -- four classroom (Modules I - IV) and one internship (Module V). Students will begin playing in common areas the first week of classes and will play their internships exclusively during the two weeks between Modules III and IV. Internships shall be highly structured and closely supervised. Additional requirements include recordkeeping, readings, and journaling.
It is our intention that all students accepted into this program will complete it in its entirety by the end of the summer and be eligible to graduate at our annual graduation, held in August. If all requirements have been satisfied, graduates will receive the designation of Hospital-Certified Junior Harpist, to be co-awarded by Bedside Harp and the host facility where the student has completed his/her internship. Graduates of this program will not be qualified to do unsupervised individual patient rounds, nor will they be qualified to work in hospice settings. To qualify for certification in those two areas of harp therapy, students must be 18 years of age or older and must complete additional requirements as set forth in our adult certification program.
