A God Wink
Spotting me as I strolled down the hall playing my little harp, the thirty-some patient declared, “How cool is that!.” I smiled and entered her room. To my utter surprise, my fingers immediately began picking out a tune I hadn’t yet quite gotten together. “What is that song?” the patient asked. I played it a second time, as much to allow her more time to think of the answer as to give me another shot at finding the right notes. “C’mon,” she pleaded, “what’s the name of that tune?” “Rainbow Connection,” I told her. “You play it beautifully,” she whispered, blinking away a tear. As I played the song a third time, she began speaking.
“You know, there really are no coincidences. My family knows that I’ve always believed in rainbows. When I first came here, I was very, very sick. My brother told me that after I was brought from the ER to this room, he looked out the window and saw a rainbow. That was when he knew, he told me, that I would be all right. Not that I didn’t believe him, but because I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I questioned whether he was telling me that to give me hope. And today you walk into my room and play a rainbow song. Now I know for sure I will be all right.”
“A coincidence is a small miracle in which God chooses to remain anonymous.” –Anonymous
