Feng shui suggests that basements represent the past. If they are jammed with things we’ve stashed away because we do not want to deal with them, the energy throughout the whole home is blocked.

That makes a great deal of sense to me, so today I will go to my basement and begin sorting through the clutter, getting rid of the excess, organizing whatever I really want to keep, vacuuming and scrubbing. There are at least a hundred other things I’d really rather do, but I have a strong feeling that working on foundations—upon which everything depends—is exactly what I need to focus on today.
