Happy Feet
At the risk of sounding mundane, my topic this morning is feet—well, to be exact, feet and experts. Strolling through long hospital hallways and standing at a bedside to deliver a healing tones to a patient, how my feet feel at any given moment matters a great deal. Tired feet convince me to visit units close by. Tired feet will also get me to leave a patient sooner. Conversely, happy feet will take me to places off my beaten track and allow me to enjoy longer patient visits.
So when my feet and legs began paining me a few weeks back, I became greatly concerned. I was convinced my shoes were the very best—I’d bought them at a store specializing in good fitting shoes—they called themselves shoe experts. So I was convinced that it couldn’t be my shoes. Searching the Internet, I found a myriad of possible causes for foot and leg pains—all of them pretty grim.
And then one day occurred to me that even though I’d gone to the experts, perhaps my discomfort was because of my shoes, after all. On Tuesday I limped to a healthcare uniform store and there I found two different styles of shoes that felt good as soon as I put them on. Yesterday I wore one pair of them. I was simply amazed—throughout the day and into the night. My feet felt loved and well cared for throughout the 3 ½ hours I played and the many miles I walked. And this morning, no leg aches!
Once again I was reminded that there are experts and then there are those who really know…
”I still have my feet on the ground, I just wear better shoes.” –Oprah Winfrey
”Don’t be buffaloed by experts and elites. Experts often possess more data than judgment.”—Colin Powell
In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities. In the expert’s mind there are few.” –Shunryu Suzuki
Enjoy your day!
