Kindness
I surprised a group of three people yesterday by a rather simple act of kindness. What was the most fun was that what I did was totally unexpected on all of our parts. The delight I felt and, from the looks on their faces, realized they felt, truly made my day and inspires me today to wonder to whom and in what situation might I have the opportunity to make my next surprising act of kindness happen.

“Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day.” — quoted in P.S. I Love You, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
“During my second year of nursing school our professor gave us a quiz. I breezed through the questions until I read the last one: ‘What is the first name of the woman who cleans this school?’ Surely this was a joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Before the class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our grad. ‘Absolutely,’ the professor said, ‘in your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say hello.’ I’ve never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.” — Joann C. Jones
“Never miss an opportunity to make others happy, even if you have to leave them alone in order to do it.” — Author Unknown
