Listening
“I never learn anything,” Larry King said a couple of nights ago, “when I’m doing the talking.” And I thought, how right he is—far, far more interesting than my own yammering away is my listening to you!
“Every person in this life has something to teach me — and as soon as I accept that, I open myself to truly listening.—Unknown
“We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.” –Epictetus
“If the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.” –A. A. Milne

Thank you, Edie, for this wonderful reflection. It seems that listening is a challenging art to acquire. Our community is involved in many gathering/planning sessions for two major events in our community of Mercy. I am getting much practice in listening, and acquiring much learning. (Same is true for my hospital ministry!) Your reflections are wonderful “life- reminders”! Blessings and love, Jane
