Revisiting Andersen
“It was summertime in the country. Mother Duck sat upon her nest of eggs waiting for them to hatch. At last one egg after another began to crack. ‘Cheep, cheep!’ said the pretty fluffy ducklings as they poked their heads out of the eggs. Yet, the last duckling to hatch looked different than the rest, and he was an ugly gray color… ‘Oh dear, how ugly that duckling is! We won’t stand that.’ They flew at him at once and bit him in the neck.”
It’s Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday today—when was the last time you read one of his tales? Andersen, a highly sensitive person since childhood, knew suffering first-hand. Perhaps that’s why his tales resonate even more deeply with adults than with little ones.
You can find most of the 168 tales he wrote just by googling his name. Of course I’d love to know which you read and what you got out of it.
“Every man’s life is a fairy tale written by God’s fingers.”
“Just living is not enough…One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.”
”But the Emperor has nothing on at all!” said a little child.”
All of the above by Hans Christian Andersen
Do something to honor the little child within you today—eat some jelly beans, play ball, blow bubbles.
Enjoy your day!
