Thinking Differently
Funny how attitudes change. An elderly male patient, looking rather haggard, invited me into his room yesterday. When I played “Tennessee Waltz” he managed a smile. About the third time I played the theme, he began humming along and then even to sing. Ten notes into “You Belong to Me,” he drifted off, snoring blissfully. I played about five minutes more before gliding into the hallway, feeling exceedingly grateful that my little harp had so gently lulled this man to sleep.
Driving home I remembered how irritated I once would become when someone would fall asleep when I played. These days it’s the highest compliment someone can pay me.
”If you don’t like something change it; if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” –Mary Engelbreit
“Oft expectation fails, and most oft there Where it most promises.” –William Shakespeare
”Could we change our attitude, we should not only see life differently, but life itself would come to be different.”—Katherine Mansfield
