Who is Nathan Birnbaum?
Nathan Birnbaum lived two months after turning 100 years old. He attributed his long life to having a martini every night, and every day smoking between 10 to 15 cigars, walking a mile and a half, thinking positive, challenging himself, and having a massage. In his memoirs, he wrote: “There’s an old saying. ‘Life begins at 40.’ That’s silly—life begins every morning when you wake up. Open your mind to it: don’t just sit there—do things. Swim the English Channel; find a cure for the common cold; be the first to go over the Niagara falls in a rocking chair. You see, the possibilities are endless. If all else fails, try doing something nice for somebody who doesn’t expect it. You’ll be surprised how good you feel.”
Nathan Birnbaum sure was a pretty smart guy. But he’ll most be remembered because he made us laugh.

“I honestly think it is better to be a failure at something you love than to be a success at something you hate.” — George Burns
“If you ask what is the single most important key to longevity, I would have to say it is avoiding worry, stress and tension. And if you didn’t ask me, I’d still have to say it.” — George Burns
“Retirement at sixty-five is ridiculous. When I was sixty-five I still had pimples.” — George Burns
“You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old.” — George Burns
Be sure to live, love, and laugh today.
Enjoy your day!

Eddie, my mom died just past 100 as well and said much the same about positive attitude, etc. as dear Nathan. Another famous quote from Mom was “All things in moderation; have a little bit of everything but not too much of anything!” Edie, I’ve been really enjoying your reflections. Thanks!
