You Gotta Have Heart
I played for two hours in a mall last evening—at a hospital-sponsored Go Red for Women event meant to educate women of the importance of becoming more tuned in to their bodies, and most especially, to their hearts.
It may be surprising, but it is heart disease, not cancer, that kills the most men and women worldwide. And it’s far more insidious for women because its symptoms are different from those of men and too often go unnoticed. We all need to know about an NIH study that reported that 43% of women who suffered heart attacks never experienced any chest pain. What they most often did experience was fatigue, restless sleep, and shortness of breath—all things easily brushed aside or attributed to other causes.
Let us wake up, sisters, and listen to our bodies at least as well as we listen to the needs and wants of others.
”The greatest wealth is health.” —Virgil
” The… patient should be made to understand that he or she must take charge of his own life. Don’t take your body to the doctor as if he were a repair shop. — Quentin Regestein, MD, Harvard professor of psychiatry
My wish for you today is to listen to what your body is telling you.
Enjoy your day!
