A Difficult Moment
December 2009. Pastoral care volunteer asked me to play for the patient in the bed by the door, said she was having a bad day. When I entered the room, patient was on the phone, crying. She told the person that she would call them back because there was someone playing the harp for her. She cried for a while longer then calmed down. Eventually, she smiled at me, said that she needed to relax. The woman in the bed by the window pulled the curtain aside, said she thought that the music was coming from a radio and asked if it was okay for her to listen also because it was just what she needed to calm down.
