Amazing Grace
The wife of this patient spotted me in the lobby. She told me that I had played for her husband several weeks before when he was in the hospital. At that time they had requested hymns. She reminded me of exactly which hymns I’d played. She asked if I would come to his room and play again, so I followed her. Her husband’s condition had deteriorated to the point that he was not aware of my presence. He made no response, but his wife sang all the words of the hymns I played. This seemed to comfort her greatly. She thanked me many times for coming and was so grateful that she had found me in the lobby.
