We offer ongoing semesters of Instructional folk harp at all of our host hospitals and Bucks County Community College . As of January 2005, our host hospitals include:
No prior musical experience is required to begin your journey at this level. You will need to rent or purchase a harp — we can help you with that. The official harp of all of our programs is the Marie Therapy Harp by Blevins Instruments. Each of our semesters runs 10 hours. There is no limit to how many semesters of Beginner harp a student may take; in fact, it is anticipated that students will be comfortable studying at this level for two to three semesters.
Classes are kept small to assure individualized attention. Our focus is on harp technique, building repertoire and music fundamentals. A semester consists of 10 hours of instruction and one hour of playing in common areas of a medical facility.
Once a student is able to play five tunes comfortably, is able to read music on at least one clef (Treble) and has some knowledge of what playing by chord is, that student may join the Intermediate level. Like the Beginner level, a student may take as many semesters of this level as they wish. Students at this level will also have the opportunity to play up to one hour in the Hospital per semester.
