Playing Favorites

The patient near the door was sitting in his chair leaning on the tray table, with his head in his hands.  The patient near the window was in a chair, with a visitor.  I played for them and the patient said, “That’s just beautiful.”  As I moved back towards the door, the patient near the door was weeping.  I asked what was the matter and he said, “You played my favorite song (‘Edelweiss’) and they weren’t sad tears.”
