The Power of Music

I stood in the doorway and played “‘Til There Was You.” The patient said, “Grazie!” and motioned for me to come into the room. Realizing that he was Italian, I played “Wey Marie.” Half way through the song, he recognized it and sang along at the top of his lungs in Italian. The nurse in the room was amazed. I started to play “Santa Lucia,” but he continued to sing “Wey Marie,” so I played it two more times. He continued to sing it after I left the room. The nurse saw me outside of the room and said, “That made him so happy! He’s still singing! The power of music! Thank you!”
