Winter
I, for one, am not disappointed over Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction that we’re in for six more weeks of winter. It’s not that I prefer cold weather—I most definitely do not—but there are some things about this time of year that are truly wonderful. The fresh, brisk, morning air, a crackling fire, hot soup, flannel pj’s, a warm bed, those unexpected days off. Without winter, how excited would we be over the first signs of spring? So I will enjoy the next six weeks and just pray that I don’t find myself somewhere out there, stuck in the snow.
“I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn’t show.” —Andrew Wyeth
“Hear! hear!” screamed the jay from a neighboring tree, where I had heard a tittering for some time, “winter has a concentrated and nutty kernel, if you know where to look for it.” — Henry David Thoreau, 28 November 1858 journal entry
“The color of springtime is in the flowers, the color of winter is in the imagination.” — Ward Elliot Hour
Whatever the weather, enjoy being alive today!
